A Menu for Hope

And for you, a wine list to drink, and a chance to support something very worthwhile! Yesterday I totally stumbled headlong into something very cool going on in Blogland, and knew we should take part.

It's called A Menu for Hope. This is the third year of this project, in which members of the food and wine blogging community have gathered to raise money for various food-related charities. The project was started by Chez Pim to aid the tsunami victims. This year, the beneficiary will be the United Nations World Food Programme.

Twisted Oak Winery is honored to be allowed to participate in this cause, and to contribute the following lot to the raffle. (This is in fact a raffle and not an auction, but you can "bid" by buying multiple tickets for a specific item - more on that later!)

We call it "A Twisted River and Pig". They call it Lot WB27...

The lot is two rare bottles of Twisted Oak wine, each signed by El Jefe (that be me, owner Jeff Stai) and Fermento (winemaker Scott Klann).

Fermento_fills_double_mags The first bottle is a Double Magnum (3 litres) of the River of Skulls. This wine is named after "El Rio de las Calaveras" which flows near the vineyard.

If you were one of the Twisted Few that attended our annual Cave Loot Extravaganza last August, you had the chance to purchase one of these limited edition bottles. Now's your chance to atone for that!

The River of Skulls is 100% Calaveras County Monastrell (a Spanish clone of Mourvedre), and has been aged for 14 months in one-year old French Oak. This unfiltered wine will only be bottled in Double Magnums and only 50 are being produced. A handsome wooden box is also included. The artwork for this wine was designed by El Jefe's son Andrew.

The second bottle is a soon-to-be rare 375mL bottle of the first vintage of the Pig Stai Pour't. This wine is named after moi (the only way I was ever getting a last name like that on a wine bottle.) The Pig Stai Pour't is made in the style of a vintage Port from 100% Touriga Nacional grapes grown in Calaveras County. "With a name like Pig Stai, you know it has to be good!"

Both wines will be shipped to you after the River of Skulls is bottled.

So how do you bid on this Lot WB27 and other prizes?

1. Go to the donation page at http://www.firstgiving.com/menuforhopeIII.

2. Make a donation, each $10 will give you one raffle ticket toward a prize of your choice.  Please specify which prize or prizes you'd like in the 'Personal Message' section in the donation form when confirming your donation.  Do tell us how many tickets per prize, and please use the prize code -for example, a donation of $50 can be 2 tickets for WB27 and 3 for WB27 (the Twisted Oak lot number!)

3. If your company matches your charity donation, please remember to check the box and fill in the information so we can claim the corporate match.

4. Please also check the box to allow us to see your email address so that we could contact you in case you win.  Your email address will not be shared with anyone.

5. Check back on Chez Pim on January 15 when we announce the result of the raffle.  (The drawing will be done electronically.)
