Wine Gadgets Of The Futuuurrrrre!
Ryan over at Catavino has started a new meme to come up with that dream wine gadget you always wanted - or something like that. You can read Ryan and Gabriella's original post here to get the gist of it - but in a nutshell I've been tagged to come up with an idea for a new wine gadget...
Ryan has great timing because I have immediate need for this gadget I just thought up - or rather, let's just say I needed it last night - and if I had one of these gadgets last night I would not be typing this on my travel laptop...!
Anyway, I call it the "Wine Restraint And Containment System" or WineRACS. It's just a little device that looks like a wine charm that you clip to your fine stemware (in fact, it comes in several different wine charm styles - my favorite is the chicken, of course.) But of course it is much more than a wine charm...
Sophisticated sensors in the WineRACS detect the profile of the gravitational acceleration and rotation due to the tipping and falling of the glass. A tiny gas charge is then triggered to cause the deployment of an air bag to cushion the fall of the glass to prevent breakage.
"Great!" you say, "My Riedel will survive - but what about the 4 ounces of Petrus that are about to become one with my tablecloth?"
Good news! WineRACS has that covered too! The airbag also forms into a small containment vessel that looks amazingly like a miniature inflatable swimming pool. This containment vessel can capture up to 8 ounces of fine juice - preserving it for your later enjoyment and protecting your fine linens and any consumer electronics that might be in the way.
I sure hope this little gadget gets invented soon, because until it is, I'll be drinking my wine from a sippy cup...
(Oh yeah, and I am now supposed tag someone... how about the Winehiker for the ultimate Winehiking gadget?)

Yikes almighty....

Sounds like a perfect product for J. Addison to add to his Wino Hedonist wine enhancement products, haha! Let's see.. costs you about $1.95 to make.. that would make it about $149.95 retail.

I love it and I'll take two! I really reallly need this...I wonder if any of these might have a real future somewhere down the line?

Thought I was to pick just one victim... I could have picked several but that would have been selfish ;) Ryan?

I think we would be better off inventing a better way to enjoy wine AFTER we are already on the ground. Let's cut out the middleman!
