You might think that it is a tad early to be talking about a vintage that hasn't even formed yet, much less been squished and fermented. Normally yes! However, this morning we had one of those little wake up calls from Mom Nature...
All of our own vineyards, as well as those of our neighbors, took a big hit from a deep freeze down to the low 20's. Compared to what happened in some of their vineyards, I think we got off lucky! But the vines are pretty resilient and we'll still get some fruit from them this year.
Pictured below is a Grenache vine after last night's freeze, Tufa Block, Twisted Oak Winery. We use the Grenache from this vineyard as part of our Torcido.

That really is unfortunate. I'm very sorry to hear about this.
I read about it here: http://www.recordnet.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080422/A_NEWS/804220321
How much did you loose?

Jefe'
We're still licking our wounds here in Baja
Calaveras (Valley Springs). I lost about 70% of my old vine Alicante, all of the Mission. Zins, Petit Sirah, Cab Franc and Cab Sauv seem to be in decent shape.
Overall I think I will go into the grape leaf business as the plants are coming back with a vengence.
Hope to see you on PP weekend.
73's
