Got this from a friend the other day...

"Love the "take your rubber chicken" out of the closet competition. Reminds me of a funny (true) story. My two adjacent neighbors absolutely hate each other. About a dozen years ago, the neighbor on one side put out various items, all on his property behind a chain link fence, to torment the ladies on the other side. These included some decorated mannequins and, what else but, a rubber chicken. The ladies filed a police report ultimately resulting in his arrest and conviction where they referred to it as a "menacing dead rubber chicken." He was sentenced to take an anger management course and holds a grudge to this day. The mannequins were confiscated by the county sheriff. I don't know the fate of the chicken."

Adventures Indeed in Wine Packaging

Was reading some of the comments to this post over on Dr. Vino on a new single serving package, with stem:

You gotta at least love the name! (C'mon!)

But I was thinking (dangerous I know), there could be a market for wine in a juice box with an air-permeable curly straw to "decant" the wine as you sip. Someone should get on this.

Of course, then Riedel would have to produce a whole line of hand-blown curly straws, where the curves are matched to the varietal wine. Bigger curves for Cab, smaller curves for Pinot, more loops for Gewurztraminer. You get the gist.

Someone should definitely get on this.

Take Your Rubber Chicken Out of the Closet 2010! The Rules!

Take Your Rubber Chicken Out of the Closet starts now and ends July 6th July 12th, 2010.This really should give you plenty of time to come up with an entry. Really. Plenty of time. You even have the 4th of July weekend to do something at the last moment!

Ready to go? Just a few simple rules:

1. Turn off the computer and go outside to play. Seriously. Put down the mouse and get some sun. You're starting to get a little too pale anyway. Oh, and take your rubber chicken outside with you. And for Pete's sake have some fun!
2. The rubber chicken(s) (you may take more than one) must be made of some rubber-like compound, and must look like a chicken (no duckies!) It doesn't have to be a Twisted Oak Original Recipe Rubber Chicken.
3. Take pictures or video of your rubber chicken having fun in the sun. Pro tip: One good picture is more likely to win than 50 average pictures. Please just send your best. Another hint: FOCUS!
4. Send us your high resolution picture(s) or video (email tastingroom@twistedoak.com), or post them up someplace and point us at them (Hint: if you post them, make sure they are publicly accessible! You may even choose to post them on the wall of the Twisted Oak Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/twistedoak)
5. You have until July 6th July 12th to send us your entry. We will acknowledge your entry. If you don't hear back from us in a day or two, panic.
6. Fabulous prizes will be awarded as compensation for the best photos and videos submitted. The Twisted Judges will select a number of semifinalists, and a winner will be chosen by public vote. If there is a tie in the final voting the winner will be chosen by Twisted Oak Winery staff.
7. Submissions will be judged for humor, originality, humor, creativity, humor, and technique. Did we mention humor?
8. You must be 21 years or older to enter.
9. By sending your photos and/or videos to Twisted Oak, you agree to let us publish them on our web sites and publish them in any printed matter. We don't expect this permission to be exclusive, and we can't and won't transfer that permission to anyone else without asking you first. And when we do publish your photos and/or videos, we will always give you full credit. That's forever.
10. Twisted Oak Winery reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does not meet the spirit of the event, or does not follow the rules. We also reserve the right to disqualify any votes that are determined to constitute ballot stuffing. Play nice!
11. While you play outside, play safely and responsibly. Watch that cliff there. I mean it.

And the prizes? All qualified entries will receive a $10 MasterCluck gift card, which can be used to order wine online at twistedoak.com. Finalists will receive a $75 MasterCluck gift card, and the winning entry will receive a $250 MasterCluck gift card!

Take Your Rubber Chicken Out of the Closet 2010!

We, and the rubber chickens, just can't wait until January again...

So, starting tomorrow, we are asking everyone to free your rubber chicken from the confines of your hall closet (or wherever you keep it) and go outside with it! And while you are there, take pictures or a video and send them to me.

It doesn't matter where you take it, just take it out! We want to see you out with your rubber chicken!

And of course, the best of the best will receive as compensation fabulous prizes!

We'll be announcing the rules, guidelines and prizes here tomorrow.
